Just like the decor of a place, the choice of furniture also showcases the customers' personality .

Let us now look at different type of materials that are used to make furniture and get a brief of what their advantages are.

     Wood

The most conventional material used to make furniture is wood. Types of wood used to make furniture include plywood, solid wood, hardboard and particle board.

I. Plywood is known for its strength and resistance to damage such as warping and splitting. It is made by using wood grains to attach several layers of wood together. A layer of veneer is used to create a face for the wood.

II. Solid wood is a type of wood that is cut directly from the tree. This is sturdy and costlier than plywood. In case of damage, they are easily repairable unlike plywood. Hence is used for construction projects and cabinetry.

III. Hardboard is another composite wood that is made from fine wood fibers compacted under a great amount of heat and pressure. This makes it very hard and dense. Typically, there are no binding agents that hold the fibers together. It is highly recommended for construction work purposes.

IV. Particle board is made from the wooden remains like sawdust and chips. Using resin, the waste wood is bonded together and pressed to make large sheets. They are then cut and sized for commercial use. This is used in making cheap home furnishings like shelves and book casings.

     Metals

The most commonly used metals to make furniture are steel and iron. Furniture made from stainless steel is rust-resistant while coated iron makes durable furniture. Metal furniture is recommended for office furniture. Moulding metallic furniture is easier than wood and hence it is viable for making innovative designs.

     Plastics

The most flexible of all the materials used to make furniture is plastic. It has many appealing qualities like heat resistance, chemical resistance and is lightweight. Plastic furniture is extremely convenient to mould and hence has the best chances of making pretty varied styles in furniture design.
